The museum sits in the village of La Pointe on Madeline Island. The island, located in Lake Superior 2.5 miles offshore from Bayfield, is contingent to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in northern Wisconsin.

From Minneapolis/St. Paul

Take I-35 North. Merge onto US-53 South (Exit 255B) and cross into Wisconsin. Stay on US-53 South until it merges with US-2 East. Continue to follow US-2 East. Turn left onto WI-13. In Bayfield turn right on Rittenhouse Ave. and left onto Front St. Turn right onto Washington Ave. until you reach the Madeline Island Ferry dock. Take the ferry to Madeline Island (20 minute ride). Madeline Island Museum is one block north of the ferry dock on Col. Woods Ave.

From Duluth

Take US-53 South and cross into Wisconsin. Stay on US-53 South until it merges with US-2 East. Continue to follow US-2 East. Turn left onto WI-13. In Bayfield turn right on Rittenhouse Ave. and left onto Front St. Turn right onto Washington Ave. until you reach the Madeline Island Ferry dock. Take the ferry to Madeline Island (20 minute ride). Madeline Island Museum is one block north of the ferry dock on Col. Woods Ave.

From Madison

Take I-39N/I-90W/I-94W. Take I-39 North (Exit 108B) toward Wausau. Merge onto US-51 North. Take US-2 West. Turn right onto WI-13. In Bayfield turn right on Rittenhouse Ave. and left onto Front St. Turn right onto Washington Ave. until you reach the Madeline Island Ferry dock. Take the ferry to Madeline Island (20 minute ride). Madeline Island Museum is one block north of the ferry dock on Col. Woods Ave.

From Milwaukee

Take I-94 West. Merge onto I-39N/I-90W/I-94W. Take I-39 North (Exit 108B) toward Wausau. Merge onto US-51 North. Take US-2 West. Turn right onto WI-13.
